Monday, Ordinary 32, Proper 27 lessons brought us to the end of Joshua’s life. He had insisted in yesterday’s lesson that the Children of Israel make their stand on whether they would follow God or not. He pressed them to make a commitment and they did. He set up an altar and standing stones to recognize the event-the moment in time when the Children of Israel made that commitment. Joshua knew he was going to die and he wanted to prepare his people for the eventuality. He did his work correctly because while he was present they didn’t go away from God. They followed God and obeyed his commandments. Even after Joshua, the elders, whom he had taught and guided, continued to lead the children of Israel in the way that they should go. So they started on their time in the Promised Land going the way of the Lord.

The Psalmist reviewed all the aspects of the Exodus and the children of Israel coming to the Promised Land and how they had encountered those who were against God but God prevailed over all their enemies. They should never forget that was the Psalmist’s message.
