This Fifth Day after Epiphany focuses on the prophecies of the Old Testament in Psalm 29, and the results in Acts 9 and I Samuel 7. Psalm calls on the Voice of the Lord and its power. The New Testament Acts of the Apostles deals with the aftermath of conversion, especially of one, never expected to become a part of the community. In Psalm 29, we continue to praise God for the voice which speaks and causes things to come into being; guides the hearts of kings and queens. All nations are subject to him.

I remember a testimony given by an ex—con. He had been caught for 21 murders and was serving over 200 years in successive life terms. The probability of parole was never a part of his life.

Twenty years into his term in prison, he was equally vicious. Guards and prisoners alike feared him. A prison chaplain asked him to come to Bible study and the shock to everyone was that he showed up.

God reached out and touched his soul. He confessed his sin and asked Jesus to come into his heart.
